Description

So way the heck back in November, I was chattin' it up with a bunch of people in the Rogue Skies chatroom when I noticed that that account was nearing 40k views! So I thought, well, what the heck, whoever can catch the forty thousandth view, I'll draw them up something!

The amazingly talented Mr. *falingard wound up catching it, and he requested I draw his RS contestants, Riel and Zin.

And I took a billion years to do so.

BUT! Here it is, done now. I actually had the lineart and flats done, oh, a couple months ago, and since then I haven't really had time to work on it, and THEN i lost the file for a while. Finally, I was able to find it and finish it. However, I wish I could redo some of it now- Even a couple months later I can pick out mistakes (like Zin's short arm) BUT time is not on my side.

ANYWAY TL; DR, Really, it's part Kiriban and part fanart, considering I am a big fan of Falin's work. I hope you like it Falin, and I"m sorry for any inaccuracies!

Zin, Riel and the Clockwork Angel belong to :iconfalingard:

My goodness. You sent up the me-signal again.

Theme? Yes. Costumes? Yes. These are all good things. I'm not really into the color scheme on the female's outfit - it seems kind of garish, but that's a personal taste thing. It also makes me think of Mulan, for some reason. Don't ask me to explain that one.

There's a few things that kind of made me ehhhh. The shading doesn't conform quite enough to the contours of the figures. Also, where exactly is it coming from? It seems consistent enough on the people, but not on the plane.

A downside to doing this sort of extreme closeup is that you don't get the sense that they are flying in the air. It seriously took me a moment to realize that they were in the air. Showing the entire plane - and the sky under it - would really aid in the I AM FLYING AND VERY EXHILARATED!! effect you seem to be going for. Their expressions serve this end well, but aren't enough on their own.

The boy's ear bothers me. Her ear is fine - I mean, even though you drew it like the inner ear goes into the middle of the cartilage, a lot of people won't notice it, I guess - but his ear is missing some kind of vital ear stuff. It's one thing to simplify an ear, but you've gotta simplify it sensibly.

Varying line widths might have helped to imply perspective. Lighter line weight on the girl, in particular. Especially on the wrinkles. (I still have that problem, too. I tend to give stuff much bolder line weights than it needs, and then I go back and smack myself later because I hahahahaaaate it.)

The clouds are nice, though they don't have a lot of depth. I find painting clouds to suck. I hates them.

I like that you were going for the sepia YE OLDE STEAMPUNKE TYME color scheme with the plane and the sky.
